Mama's Poem
Dear Fear of making my mama sad
Dear Fear of making my mama sad,
I can’t bear to see your tears fall,
Like meteors crashing into my heart—
Heavy so, and so cold.
If I could be anything,
I’d be a tear catcher.
For if one more drop falls,
I’d be buried beneath a glacier of guilt.
If one more falls,
I’d pray to the heavens to make you feel whole again.
So, mama, please don’t be sad.
You deserve to see sunlight
Shining through the crystal walls of your heart.
You deserve not to worry about your annoying kid.
You deserve happiness.
When I stare at the moon,
I wonder,
Why am I so afraid of your tears?
Perhaps it’s because humans are made of both:
A cup of weakness,
And a cup of strength.
Best,
Your kid
